Kelp Forest Collection
Kelp is a collective name for large brown seaweeds such as those of theFucaceae and Laminariaceae families.  The brown kelp is abundant in cold waters, and is one of the fastest-growing organisms reaching 100 feet.  Its rapid surface growth provides shelter and food for much of the marine life.

Along the central California coast many kelp species can be found, including giant kelp, feather boa kelp and bull kelp.  Giant kelp can be found more commonly in areas that experience calm water conditions. Bull kelp is much more tolerant of water with faster currents. And in the shallower depths, the feather boa kelp is found.  It is the Giant kelp that produces a canopy effect,  giving all who enter the feeling of an underwater forest.
